San Diego Counselor
Relief begins when you do not have to hold everything alone.
How Do I Find a San Diego Counselor Who Can Actually Help?
Alexa Hall LCSW Active Duty Military, Veteran & First Responder Therapist
You’re at a breaking point.
Life feels like it has imploded. You look around and know something has to change and it needed to change yesterday. You cannot keep living this way. You feel desperate for support, overwhelmed by options, and unsure where to begin. The search for help feels confusing and exhausting, especially when you are already stretched thin. You are trying to figure out whether EMDR intensives, weekly counseling in San Diego, or something else will finally create the shift you need.
You have tried to handle this on your own.
You have carried these memories and patterns for a long time. You tried talk therapy before, and it did not create the change you hoped for. It left you skeptical, frustrated, and still overwhelmed. You are not looking for surface conversations or years of talking without relief.
You want something that actually works.
You are the kind of person who wants real transformation. You want your brain and body to shift in ways that last. You want a reset. You want clarity, safety, and a life that feels like your own again. You are willing to put in the work because you know this change matters for you and for the people you love.
You just need someone who can hold the intensity of what you carry and guide you with clarity and skill.
This is where I come in.
A San Diego Counselor Who Does Therapy Differently
Hi, I Am Alexa Hall, LCSW & San Diego Counselor
I work with adults who have lived through things most people never talk about. I show up with steadiness, honesty, warmth, and clear direction. My approach is trauma focused and grounded, blending EMDR and somatic therapy in a way that helps your brain and body shift, not just your thoughts. I do not sit back and nod. I partner with you. I tell you what I notice. I help you stay oriented, supported, and empowered in every step of the process.
You will not be asked to carry everything alone.
You will not be pushed to retell your trauma in ways that overwhelm your system. You will not be left guessing what is happening in the room. You get clarity. You get structure. You get a path.
We build a healing process that is organized and intentional.
I use research backed approaches, especially EMDR therapy, and I stay close to the protocols because the research shows that precision matters. My goal is effectiveness, not performance. Each week we track your progress so you always know where you are in your healing and what is shifting.
We work through stuck points and painful memories without overwhelming your system.
Clients often describe a moment when things finally ease. One person told me, “The memory is still there, but it feels faded, like an old-timey film reel. It is no longer happening in the here and now. It lost its grasp on my life.” This is the kind of transformation we aim for, where your past stops running your present and your body learns safety again.
My Experience and Background as a San Diego Counselor
It matters who you trust with your story.
I want you to know that I bring both professional depth and lived compassion into this work.
I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2012 with a BA in Anthropology and began working in the mental health field in 2016. I earned my Master of Social Work from San Diego State University in 2022 and completed my EMDR training that same year. While my education laid the foundation, the heart of my work comes from years spent supporting people through crisis, transition, and deep healing.
I have worked across a wide range of settings, which gives me a grounded understanding of how trauma shows up in real life.
I supported individuals, couples, and families in a substance abuse intensive outpatient program. I have served veterans through the VA and Veterans Village of San Diego, and I provided PTSD focused equine assisted therapy to veterans and their families.
My work also includes providing care through Southern Indian Health Council and supporting adults at Sharp Mesa Vista across inpatient, outpatient, and PHP levels of treatment. These environments taught me how differently trauma affects people and how to meet clients with steadiness no matter what they are carrying.
Most of my direct work has been individual therapy with adults ages 18 to 55 struggling with anxiety and ongoing trauma from childhood or adulthood. I have provided on site crisis support, long term therapy, and ongoing care for people navigating trauma, anxiety, eating disorders, and major life transitions. I bring extensive experience working with Native American communities, veterans, transgender and gender diverse youth, and LGBTQIA2S adults. These experiences shape how I understand identity, culture, safety, and the systems that impact each person’s healing.
All of this informs how I show up with you. I am calm in crisis, steady with complexity, and deeply respectful of the unique path that brought you here. My goal is always the same: to offer a grounded, culturally aware, trauma informed space where you can heal in a way that feels safe and real.
Why I Became a Therapist
My belief in this work comes from my own healing.
In my mid twenties, I walked into therapy unsure and exhausted, and it changed my life. I felt seen in a way I had never experienced. I reconnected with myself. I found clarity and steadiness that reshaped everything for me. Because of that experience, I pursued my master’s in social work so I could offer others the same depth of support.
I believe therapy is for everyone.
There is nothing more meaningful than knowing yourself, caring for yourself, and building a life that feels grounded and real.
This work is personal to me, and I bring that commitment into every session.
They rediscover the version of themselves who can rest, laugh, and trust that safety isn’t temporary.
As one client put it: “You helped me realize I had everything I needed all along. I just didn’t know how to access it.” That’s the heart of this work. Reconnecting with the strength that’s always been within you.
